Description

Victorian Classic English Shotgun

This is a very nice side by side 12 bore external hammer side lock made by Lloyd & Son of Lewes East Sussex. UK.

Lloyd & Son was a British gunmaker based in Lewes, East Sussex, with a history dating back to 1775. By 1914, they were known as gun makers, gun fitters, and athletic sports outfitters, operating from 2 Station Street, Lewes.

Their 12-bore side-by-side hammer shotguns were crafted with attention to detail and quality. Unfortunately, there are few records available upon the full history of Lloyds & Son actual guns, but we are able to ascertain some considered opinion.

This particular gun appears to have crafted 'skelp twist' damascus type barrels and walnut woodwork.

We are unable at this time to clearly identify the serial number due to age and wear but we believe it to be either 3677 or 6677. However, the barrel and action proof marks date the gun as being late Victorian bearing Birmingham Proofing from 1887 to 1896, we therefore suspect that it is the earlier serial number.

These shotguns occasionally appear in auctions and sales, reflecting their enduring appeal among enthusiasts and collectors.

Please note the following:

The fore end on this gun uses hacket type spring fastner and barrel lug. The barrel lug is loose as the solder has failed and will need re-soldering.

We are offering this gun by auction with a starting price set to what its perceived value may be. However, this auction is also set to use our 'Make Offer' wherein interested potential buyers can make a private offer to purchase at a price they see fit but note that all offers made operate upon the same guidelines as an auction and therein any offer made, if accepted becomes binding upon both buyer and seller.
